August 2020

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

John Ruyter, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

CHRA President

Dear Colleagues and Friends-

We hope that you and your family and colleagues remain safe and healthy and are finding (new!) ways to enjoy summer.

We are pleased to share that because of your continued membership and support, CHRA was once again recognized in the Baltimore Business Journal on "The List - Largest Associations In Greater Baltimore."

CHRA and its leadership are working to support SHRM's initiative, "Together Forward @Work" to address equity, bias and racism in the workplace. We will share additional information as it becomes available, and we encourage you to visit CHRA's resources on workplace diversity and inclusion here.

To recognize and celebrate Baltimore-area organizations that are committed to workplace diversity and inclusion, CHRA is now accepting nominations for the 2020 James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award. Nominations will be accepted through August 28th, 2020 and the awards will be presented at the Annual Diversity Event that will take place October 14, 2020.

Looking ahead, the Professional Development Committee led by CHRA's Director of Professional Development, Monica Meneses will be presenting an outstanding line-up of online educational programming to start in September. The CHRA Fall Conference Committee, led by Darcy Boegner, Director, Fall Conference is working hard behind the scenes to create an innovative and engaging virtual Fall Conference.

As we continue to navigate these challenging times, we are extremely grateful for the support and friendship of our HR colleagues in CHRA. Stay safe, and "see" you soon!

Sincerely,

John

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

SHRM recently announced an initiative "Together Forward @Work" with an initial focus of addressing racism in the workplace. SHRM has established a Blue Ribbon Commission to bring together those who can lead the way toward action and accountability.

CHRA and its members are committed to social and racial justice in the workplace and beyond. We encourage you to view our diversity and inclusion resources, and to get involved as a volunteer with the CHRA Diversity & Inclusion committee here.

The CHRA Diversity & Inclusion Committee recognizes Baltimore-area organizations that demonstrate a commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion through the presentation of the Annual James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award program.

If know an organization deserving of recognition for their workplace diversity and inclusion programs, we encourage you to submit a nomination.

Nominations are due by August 28th, 2020. The Award will be presented at the Annual Diversity Education Program and Awards Ceremony on October 14, 2020.

  • Addressing COVID-19, especially as related to workplaces re-opening
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • The need for ongoing, frequent educational programs to provide recertification credits
