James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award

The nominations deadline for the 2019 James W. Rouse Award has now passed. We look forward to seeing you at the 2020 Event (details to be announced).


The James W. Rouse Diversity Award is presented annually to a local organization that best exemplifies an attitude and environment of acceptance and inclusion. The award is presented at CHRA's Annual Diversity Event. 

Award Criteria Information



Baltimore area businesses or organizations serving the Baltimore Metropolitan area with a Human Resources department and/or Manager who can demonstrate a commitment to promoting a diverse, healthy workplace through human resources efforts in training and development, recruiting, employee retention, community outreach, mentoring, shadowing, wellness, cultural competence, diversity training and/or other activities, etc., are eligible for nomination for the award, as long as the organization has not received the award within the previous five years.

Nominations will be placed into four categories for consideration and judged among others in their respective categories


• Small Companies = under 100 employees
• Mid Size Companies = 101 up to 500 employees
• Large Companies = more than 500 employees
• Educational Institutions: K-12, Community Colleges and Universities

Selection Criteria

Organizations will be selected from this online nomination form, CHRA Board recommendations, or publicized initiatives of which CHRA is made aware. Finalists may be asked to participate in a conference call interview with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee before the final selection is made. All nominees will be notified of the status of their application(s). Award recipients will be recognized and presented with the award at the CHRA Annual Diversity Event.
