ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Following the presentation, we will learn how to “use our tools” with an honest dialogue about the opportunities and challenges of building and sustaining diversity and inclusion efforts across our organizations. Dr. Jennifer Jimenez Maraña, one of today’s foremost authorities on diversity, equity and inclusion, will unload the toolkit of options for organizations that desire to, but have not yet implemented diversity efforts as well as options for organizations whose efforts need refreshing.

Employees want to work in organizations where they can bring their whole selves, where their talents and experiences are respected and valued, and where they feel a sense of belonging. Building and sustaining diversity efforts within organizations requires intention and action; yet organizations do not always know how or where to begin. The goal of this session is to provide participants with a variety of ideas and actions to build organizational diversity efforts and/or move organizational diversity efforts forward. We will discuss best practices across our organizations in order to learn from and support one another’s shared journeys.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Jennifer Jimenez Maraña is one of today's foremost authorities on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Jennifer is a nationally recognized expert in  fields ranging from higher education to healthcare, and her insight and engineering of strategic initiatives have been incorporated at some of our  country's most prestigious organizations. She has led diversity efforts in higher education, healthcare, and most recently in senior living at  Broadmead, serving as their inaugural Director of Diversity and Inclusion.  Jennifer's leadership and training incorporates multicultural consulting, inclusivity programming and dialogue facilitation into a cohesive package, utilizing everything from focus group discussions to rigorous data analysis. Despite an educational pedigree that includes a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a master’s degree from the acclaimed Counseling and Personnel Services program at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a PhD in Education from Claremont Graduate University, Jennifer’s most proud accomplishment has been raising three children, poignantly blessed with her oldest having spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. This profound experience deepens her empathy of others' diverse lived journeys, and humanizes her commitment to teach and train others to better connect across different backgrounds.
