President's Message

Hello CHRA members!

I am continually amazed at how quickly time flies by - it is already February! Before we know it, it will be spring.

Like most of you, CHRA is busy preparing for all of the great programs that lie ahead. We will continue to offer the great Members Only programs, New Member Orientations and Professional Emphasis Groups. If you have not had a chance to participate, please check them out and do so. You will agree that they are highly valuable to your membership!

Our volunteers are working so hard to make sure that you receive the most out of your membership. Just to name a few, the Government Affairs Committee has been quite busy as the MD General Assembly began a few weeks ago. Please continue to check our website for updates. The Professional Certification Committee has been working on finalizing the next round of prep courses. If you are interested, there is still time to register for the SPHR/PHR prep course that will be offered in the spring, beginning February 16th. Please be on the lookout for some other professional development courses that we will be offering later this year.

I know that you will agree when I say that we have a wonderful organization. I am reminded everyday of how supportive our members are to each other. I frequently hear stories of how members are offering to meet others to network for job search opportunities or to share "best practices" to take back to the workplace. I encourage you to make connections and continue to be the support for our HR community.

As part of our planning efforts, we have included in this newsletter the Call for Nominations for the upcoming Board of Directors. Please consider this opportunity and contact me with any questions.

As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Board of Directors as we are in partnership with you to make CHRA successful.

Warmest regards,

Kelly Mitchell, MS, SPHR
President
CHRA Board of Directors

Nominations Now Being Accepted for CHRA Board of Directors

The CHRA Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2010-2011 Board of Directors. Professional members of CHRA are welcome and encouraged to submit their name to CHRA for consideration. Participation on the board of directors is a rewarding experience that provides opportunities for leadership development, networking, and the ability to give back to the profession. As a bonus, individuals who have a PHR/SPHR/GPHR designation may obtain recertification credit for participating as an officer or committee chair.

The term is from June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011 and the Board meets monthly during that time period. Directors are responsible for running CHRA’s volunteer committees. For a list of board positions and responsibilities, please visit: www.chra.com/committees.htm.

Interested candidates should send a resume to Kelly Mitchell at kmitchell@impacthrllc.com no later than February 17. Additional information may be requested at a later date. If you have any questions, you may also contact Kelly by phone at 410-480-7145.
