This interactive presentation will address the three V’s of communication (Visual, Vocal, and Verbal) and help the attendees identify strengths and weaknesses in their personal communication style or the style of their employees and colleagues. The audience will hear how the convergence of social and business philanthropy causes a lean-in effect by employers, creating a culture of encouragement, engagement and education around giving and social responsibility for employees and communities. The audience will leave with new ways to approach driving a culture of giving in the workplace and understand how to maintain sustainability.

2a - Workplaces in the Post- Harvey Weinstein Age- Whistleblowing Investigating and Responding to Harassment and Bullying: The Role of HR Just Got Bigger 

        Leslie Robert Stellman, Esquire, Pessin Katz Law P.A.

 

About the Program:

In the past few months, major corporations have been rocked with scandal and shame over the misbehavior of their CEO’s and other high level executives, including the Miramax/Weinstein organizations, Uber, and Fox News. HR professionals have no doubt found themselves in the middle of a perilous situation because they are expected to be on the front lines of prevention and intervention where pervasive sexual harassment, bullying, and predatory behavior affects employees in the workplace. This session will provide human resources professionals an overview into the current state of the law governing workplace harassment and bullying, including sexual harassment. Many HR professionals are faced with organizations in which top executives are often the worst offenders, leaving them with a Hobson’s choice of blowing the whistle or seeing the business they serve fall because of abusive leaders. In fact the Supreme Court’s landmark 1993 ruling in Harris v. Forklift Systems, Inc. involved sexually abusive conduct by a company’s CEO, and set the standard for determining corporate liability in sexual harassment cases.

 

This presentation will provide HR both legal and practical advice for dealing with workplace sexual predators, including high level executives, focusing on legal protections in federal and local laws governing whistleblowers and individuals who complain of discriminatory working conditions. It will further address the critical role that HR professionals must play in getting to the bottom of abusive and predatory workplace behavior, including the dynamics of conducting a thorough and proper investigation, protecting victims of harassment, and minimizing the legal risks faced by companies which turn a blind eye to predatory conduct. In the post-Harvey Weinstein world, human resources leaders do not have the luxury of ignoring or minimizing even suspected harassment in their workplaces, no matter the position in the organization of the alleged perpetrator. Recent lawsuits brought against the general counsel for Fox News based upon her failure to diligently follow up and investigate suspected sexual harassment represents a real potential for personal liability on the part of HR directors in the event of litigation based upon pervasive predatory practices that are insufficiently investigated and followed up. 

 

2b - The Proof Is In The Pudding: Data Driven Success

This session will provide novice, intermediate, and expert-level tips for designing programs, determining effectiveness, and demonstrating accountability for HR resources.

 

When working with human capital and addressing employment needs, it is often difficult to not only formulate effective programming and initiatives, but to also measure success and demonstrate accountability to various constituents. This session will provide blueprints on the novice, intermediate, and expert levels for the assessment cycle that translates the power of your work to various audiences.


 

2c - *Business Credit* The Human Side of Innovation: New Ways for HR to Impact the Entire Enterprise

Innovation is a key driver for the business. Many approaches to drive innovation leverage technology, processes and systems. Frequently overlooked is the Human Side of Innovation. To be truly successful, it is essential to address the complete range of skills, competencies and behaviors of everyone in the organization. A key benefit of this session for HR practitioners is that is shows an impactful avenue to improve impact with and access to the operating business. When HR practitioners use the steps outlined in this program the C-Suite and leaders of the operating units will realize new value that HR can bring to the business and open new doors to collaboration. This session will highlight the importance and possibilities of HR as a driver for innovation across the organization. It will also provide participants with the tools to boost innovation enterprise-wide and thereby become trusted advisors in the conversations with the core business.

If you must cancel your registration for a meeting, please do so in writing to info@chra.com. The request must be received by fax or mail no later than the close of business on Thursday, April 5, 2018. If you register for this event and are a “no show” and did not cancel in advance, you will still be invoiced for the event so CHRA may recoup the funds used to pay for your meals at the event. If you do not cancel according to this policy, you will be assessed the full program fee.
