ABOUT THE PROGRAM & PRESENTERS

Join Henry Smith, Partner at Smith & Downey, and Stacy Heistand, Consultant at Asset Strategy Consultants, for an update on “Hot Topics” relating to retirement plans - including the status of the Department of Labor Fiduciary regulations, the latest on the explosion of plaintiffs’ lawsuits against retirement plan sponsors, the termination by the IRS of its ongoing determination letter program, and other developments affecting your retirement plans now and in the near future.

 

Henry Smith is a partner at Smith & Downey, a law firm with a national practice concentrating in employee benefits, employee compensation, and labor and employment law. Smith & Downey has offices in Baltimore, New York, Washington, DC, Charleston, Sarasota/Bradenton, and Palm Beach Gardens. Henry advises for-profit, tax-exempt, governmental, and church-related employers of all sizes, in all industries, in all areas of the country concerning the full range of employee benefit and executive compensation issues. Henry also regularly works with other benefits professionals and other attorneys who require legal expertise for their clients in Henry’s practice area.


He is active in various American Bar Association committees dealing with employee benefits and executive compensation, and is a frequent lecturer and panelist at educational programs dealing with those areas. Henry is past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Employee Benefits Committee and past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Tax Section.

Henry is a principal author of Panel Publishers’ Nonqualified Deferred Compensation Answer Book and Nonqualified Deferred Compensation Forms and Checklists. From 1997-2000, Henry was the author of COBRA Procedures Manual, HIPAA Quarterly, and COBRA Quarterly. From 1997 – 2007, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law in the University of Baltimore Law School’s Graduate Tax program.

When not practicing law or spending time with his wife and five adult children and five grandchildren, Henry chairs the Surrattsville High School Foundation and plays guitar in The Back Pages Band.

Stacy Heistand is a Consultant in the Harrisburg office of Asset Strategy Consultants and has over 20 years of experience consulting on Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit retirement plans. He began his career on the administration and recordkeeping side of the business as a retirement plans administrator with Merrill Lynch. He was responsible for the day-to-day servicing and annual compliance with multi-million dollar plans.

Stacy joined Alliance Benefit Group (ABG) in 1998 as a plans administrator and account services representative and later as an Investment Advisor. He also was the manager of a team responsible for over 350 retirement plans with over $1 billion in plan assets.

In 2004 Stacy joined Union National Community Bank in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Stacy developed and built the retirement plan services program for the bank’s trust department and served as the primary consultant for all of the bank’s retirement plan clients.

Stacy earned a B.S. in Finance from The Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg. He is a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries through which he has attained the QPA-Qualified Pension Administrator, QKA-Qualified 401(k) Administrator, and QPFC- Qualified Plan Financial Consultant designations.

The deadline to cancel in order to receive a refund is Friday, June 16. If you do not cancel in advance and do not attend the event, you will still be invoiced for the event.
