About the Presenters

MORNING KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
"Human Resource Management After the Great Recession"
Presented by Anirban Basu, Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc.
This program is sponsored by Tower Federal Credit Union
(This session is pending approval from HRCI)

Anirban Basu is one of the Mid-Atlantic regions’ most recognizable economists. He has written several high-profile economic development strategies, including co-authoring Baltimore City’s economic growth strategy. In addition to regularly lecturing at Johns Hopkins University in international economics, Mr. Basu serves on the Board of Directors of several employers in the Baltimore region.

Mr. Basu will share his vision of the future of human resource management, given the 7.5% unemployment rate in Maryland and 10% rate nationally. Evidence of underemployment is as large, if not a larger, problem as unemployment, and will be addressed as well.

Mr. Basu’s plenary presentation will also cover how compensation should be set and structured in the year ahead, how state and local government is impacting the future of employment, and key demographic attributes of the labor force and the implications of those attributes for workforce development going forward.

AFTERNOON KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
"Keeping Up in a Down Economy: What the Best Companies Do to Get Results in Tough Times"
Presented by Bob Nelson, Ph.D., President, Nelson Motivation Inc.
(This session has been approved for 1.25 strategic credits)

This session is a comparative study of organizations whose employee engagement scores have improved over the recent recession and companies whose employee engagement scores have declined over a comparable period. You will learn the six key human resource-related dimensions and in reviewing these six dimensions for increasing employee motivation, engagement and performance, you will learn specific techniques and recent named corporate examples, case studies and best practices linked to each dimension from leading organizations today. The session concludes with an overview of a systems model in which you will learn a successful strategy for establishing a culture of Rewards & Recognition for integrating the dimensions discussed and a challenge to HR professionals to more strategically approach the implementation of these "soft," intangible dimensions to better improve the organization’s focus on results and morale.

Dr. Nelson has 30 years of experience in the Human Resources profession and is now president of his own company, Nelson Motivation Inc, which focuses on helping organizations improve their strategy, systems and programs for enhancing employee motivation and performance. He has authored 25 books, which have sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, including 1001 Ways to Reward Employees.
