Welcome to the Chesapeake Human Resources Association

The Chesapeake Human Resources Association (CHRA) is a non-profit Human Resources (HR) organization with nearly 600 members and two student chapters. CHRA is a local chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. CHRA's mission is to educate, train and inform members while disseminating ideas and advancing the Human Resources discipline.

Call for Speakers  2012 – 2013
for Monthly Program Education Sessions

The CHRA Professional Development Committee is looking for presenters for our regular CHRA Monthly Meeting Programs (two hours) for the season that begins September 2012 and runs through May 2013.  Speakers who provide rich content in an engaging and highly interactive format in these specific categories are preferred:

  • "How To's," (Preferably using case studies or workshops):
    • How to create and use HR Metrics
    • How to create and use a Compensation Analysis
    • How to fully utilize HRIS
    • How to conduct an HR audit
  • Benefits (HR's fiduciary responsibility, the design and planning of benefits)
  • Change management
  • Regulatory/Legislative updates and how they affect HR
  • HR's ability to impact the bottom line
  • Other Case studies / Workshops (examples: Day in the life of; How you created buy in from your CFO/CEO; Myers Briggs and other tools, etc.)

Programs presented by consultants or attorneys must provide general HR professional development education and cannot be marketing/sales oriented to their specific products, firms or services.  Consultants, attorneys or other service providers are expected to partner with an active HR client or practitioner during the presentation.

CHRA education sessions are typically held on the third Wednesday of each month and are two (2) hours in length. The prospective dates that we are currently trying to fill are: 

September 19, 2012
October 17, 2012
January 2013
February 2013
March 2013
May 2013

If interested in speaking at a CHRA monthly meeting, please submit your proposal to Li Na Goins (hrintelllc@gmail.com) and copy Kristen Philips (chra@assnhqtrs.com).  The committee will review proposals and contact those whom they wish to schedule. Because we try to balance the topics and presenters scheduled, and respond to member interests, it is not always possible to schedule everyone who submits a proposal.

If the given dates do not work for you, please still consider submitting your proposal for future programs or additional programs that may be added.

CHRA Job Board

Looking to hire a talented HR professional? When you have a job opportunity available, remember CHRA has a valuable resource to post your opening. The CHRA Job Board allows postings from any company (CHRA members or not!) looking to hire in the HR field. Your opening will be viewed by potential employees who are interested and have a background in positions within Human Resources. We have gotten feedback from numerous employers after posting positions stating their success in finding candidates through our Job Board.

Job postings can be sent to chra@assnhqtrs.com in an attached WordDoc or PDF, and should include company name, position title, city and state, and where/how to apply. Each posting will be listed on our site for 30 days, and will have a $100.00 fee, which can be paid by check or credit card.
